Malik Thomas has spent the start of his summer at the La Serena residency, an immersive site in Forte Dei Marmi renowned for its artistic and aesthetic influence. During this residency, Thomas has created a new body of work—a series of delicate works on silk and linen—that explore the intricate relationships between artists and lovers, external figures and internal worlds, desire, the divine, and the everyday.

The Egyptian-Palestinian fine artist embarked on a residency at La Serena Hotel with the intention of letting go. He talks of Tuscan landscapes that merge into dreamscapes, immersing himself in the old masters, long sunset cycles, and learning to loosen his artistic approach.

As part of La Serena Hotel’s dedication to the arts, they offer creatives from around the world the chance to embrace the artistic heritage of Forte dei Marmi through their artist residency programme.

The residency aims to connect ambitious artists, writers, and creatives, providing them with a global platform and inspiring the next generation of visionaries through immersive experiences in a stimulating environment.

This summer, we are excited to welcome the first artists in residence - Samo Shalaby and Malik Thomas Jalil. As they set off to the Italian coast, we get to know the residents and their plans for their artistic escape.
