Tabari Artspace Gallery presented the solo exhibition of Lebanese artist, Katya Traboulsi. Traboulsi transformed the concept of portraiture in her exhibition by utilizing MRI scans and x-rays, delving beneath the surface to manipulate and reinterpret the human form. Traditionally, the inner workings of the body have been associated with fear and left to the realm of medical professionals, often regarded as a taboo subject. However, it is now time to reclaim the inherent beauty and perfection that lies within. The intention is not to achieve mere prettiness, but rather to explore something magnificent and captivating.
In a society that idolizes appearance and style, passing judgment based on superficial aspects, the judgment of the body takes a divergent path. Katya Traboulsi's art sheds light on the exquisite harmony and flawlessness present within the cells, systems, tissues, and cavities of our bodies. Through her work, she prompts us to perceive ourselves from a fresh perspective, revealing that we are more than what we initially believed. It evokes a profound sense of unity among individuals, transcending our separate personalities and alleviating the anxieties of self. Together, we share a collective space that art has the power to create.
By accomplishing its true purpose, Katya Traboulsi's work opens a gateway to an alternate world. It allows us to experience a different reality through art, stimulating our minds and emotions, and enabling us to explore the depths of human existence.
