‘Al-Bidaya’ Marks Dubai-based Artspace’s First Showcase at
Abu Dhabi Art Fair
Leading Middle Eastern contemporary art gallery, Artspace will this November debut its participation in the Abu Dhabi Art Fair with an eclectic collection of works entitled “Al-Bidaya” (البداية), which is the Arabic word for beginnings or origins.
The Al-Bidaya collection will feature established artist Omar El Nagdi, showing his distinctive Al Alef and Al Kaaba series. Master Kufic Script calligrapher Mouneer Al Shaarani will also be presented along with an assortment of unique and powerful pieces from Samira Alikhanzadeh, Lulwah Al Homoud, Ozan and Devrim Erbil, Olfat and Alyazia Nahyan bint Mubarak Al-Nahyan.
The Al-Bidaya collection consists of various elements including calligraphy, structure, harmonious design and Islamic geometric shapes. Artspace’s prominent selection captures the essence of contemporary art and the origins of Arabic and Islamic traditions with inspiration drawn from the Arabic alphabet. The works will emphasize Arabic lettering and words including the 99 names of Allah and other Quranic verses.
