The female figure is prone, with her head hidden in clothing and shadow, her pose seems totally spent, exhausted, physically and mentally, powerfully accentuated by the bright colours in the room interior, and the confident application of impasto paint, some as solid forms, others in quick ‘hand-written” gestures, as it to capture the intensity of a moment of psychological unease, within a mystery as we can only guess at the cause of the unease, perhaps associated with the female condition in cultures and in personal relations, at the same time as recognising it as ubiquitous, as one we have all experienced at times.
