B. 1985
Margaux Derhy is a French Moroccan artist whose work explores the deep connections between family heritage, identity, and cultural memory. She studied in London at Central Saint Martins (CSM) and completed an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art (RCA). Margaux currently lives and works between Paris and Massa, a village in southern Morocco.
Through a blend of painting, sewing machine work, and traditional hand embroidery, she delves into the layers of pluridentity. Her commitment to supporting women is especially evident in her embroidery studio in Massa, where she collaborates daily with ten women who were initially unemployed, training them in embroidery techniques that blend traditional craftsmanship with contemporary storytelling. Beyond her studio, Margaux is actively engaged in empowering women, creating spaces for artistic exchange and growth.
Derhy has attended several residencies, including Jaal (2024) and Al Maqam (2021) in Marrakech, Morocco; Enamoura in Marseille, France (2020); Studio Kura in Fukuoka, Japan (2018); and Greatmore Studios in Cape Town, South Africa (2017). She has been running the Massa Stories residency in Morocco since 2019. Derhy's work is included in the Soho House Collection, and she was selected for the Dentons Art Prize in 2020.
Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, including 1-54, Marrakech and London (2024); Akaa & Menart Art Fairs with Revie Projects, Paris (2023); Eros Hypnotica by Artwork in Promess, Paris (2022); Spring Agency Show, Paris (2021); AoraIII by Aora Space, London (2021); Rongulaire by Tatiss, Lyon (2020); TwentyTwenty Women by The Artistellar, online (2020); Ddessin Art Fair, Paris (2020); Sunday Art Fair, London (2019) with A.Romy Gallery; and Investec Art Fair, Cape Town (2018).
