Harper's Bazaar Arabia spoke with Alymamah Rashed about her collaboration with Swiss watchmaker Piaget at Art Dubai, published as the fair's 2025 edition wrapped. The piece centres on the surrealist painting she made for the partnership, Your Love Moves Around My Trapeze Sun (Will You Hold Our Glistening Light?), which reworks the trapeze-shaped dial of Piaget's Sixtie Jewellery Watch Collection into a golden sun surrounded by flowing, embracing figures.
Areeba Hashmi describes Rashed's use of deep blue figures emerging from a single blue atom, rendered in lapis, gold mica and raw mineral pigment, with gold-leaf passages that echo the craftsmanship of Piaget's jewellery. The artist frames the commission through her recurring language of what she calls bodified spirits, non-repeating forms built to carry emotional and spiritual identity, and speaks of the work in terms of fluctuation, eternal movement and expansion through form. Her signature eye motif runs across the composition, inviting the viewer into what she describes as the painting's rhythmic narrative.
