This was the first and only painting that I completed at Victoria Cottages—which is ostensibly the home of the real Omar Kholeif.

The evening, I moved In, I attempted to sleep on a blanket on its cool terracotta floor. It was an impossibly lonely experience. I dreamt of the California light—its celestial glory. This painting, which I had been working on serves as a conjuring.

Through layer upon layer of oil, you will find a home painted in the colours of Victoria Cottages, and yet it is shrouded in and through the gleaming interplay of waves of light pulled from Northern California.

It is a work about dreaming of elsewhere, while standing still. Of making home from memory and feeling.
