A pool of blue interrupts the earthen landscape of Without witness, becoming an almost uncanny point of concentration within the painting. Around it, the terrain appears uninhabited, its sparse forms emerging through layers of muted colour. Yet absence in Abdalla’s work rarely signals emptiness. Her landscapes retain the psychological charge of events and emotions that remain unseen. Here, the absence of a figure—or witness—heightens that tension: the landscape seems to hold the residue of an occurrence whose narrative is withheld, leaving only its atmosphere behind.
